Soap Box Thursday! Rings, Dings, & Knockingggggg

Welcome to Soap Box Thursday..where your opinion and thoughts are appreciated!

Here is my "soap box speech" lol (Just a few things that drive me bonkers lol) Being a stay at home mom forces my time to be spent on chasing, yelling lol, teaching, changing diapers, feeding, finding entertainment, along with the house hold chores, then there's dinner, ect ect ect,(I am not complaining mind you. I love being a MOTHER and a WIFE ) in which I am sure most of you can relate! With that said, I don't have the time to answer every phone call that comes in, or every knock on the front door or ding dong of the doorbell. We have caller I.D. and if it is someone I recognize and I am able, I will take the call, most of the time, however, kids are running around like chickens so I let the voice mail get it! What drives me crazy is when people do not leave messages!!!! Then they get mad that you didn't answer the phone or get back with them lol Or when someone in the morning rings the door bell then starts knocking and knocking and knocking and you peep out the eye hole, all the while trying to keep your kids quiet, and you don't recognize this STRANGER, and yet they expect you to open the door!!!

I don't know about most of you, but these days I do not open the door to strangers, nor to do I pick up the phone at the drop of a hat! It is scary you can't trust people anymore, but having children brings out a protective nature in me.

Perhaps this is not something that even bothers you lol But me it drives me Crazy!!! I am thinking of putting a little box out by the front doors with a plaque that reads:

"If no one answers, take the pen, scribble a note, and drop it in"

The rest of the day I keep thinking who was that who came to the door lol

Do any of you answer the door during the day? Especially if you are a stay at home mom? Do you use caller I.D.?

What is your Soap Box "speech" today?

Please feel free to link your blog and share your "Soap Box" Speech! Just keep it clean PLEASE!!! Make sure to link back here. You are welcome to use the Soap Box Thursday Icon at the top if you wish! Please don't leave me standing up on this box by myself lol :)

Weigh in Wednesday

Woo hoo one pound lol This 1 lb at a time is PAINFUL lol I do have to share..that on Sunday I was getting ready for church trying to find something to wear.. (like every week lol) and I found these jeans on a hanger as I was browsing.. and decided to see if they fit.. My husband bought me these jeans 5 years ago LOL They still have the price tag on them. I think they are beautiful. They are dark denim and have beautifully embroided pink flowers from the knee down on both sides. I never could wear them because they didn't even fit five years ago (yikes) So here I go, one leg at a time.. so far its fitting.. now the button.. (ok I had to suck in a little) but oh my word they buttoned and zipped.. and I didn't have to lay on the floor to make it happen lol I was so excited.. !!! My only fear is... I was 25 when I was given the jeans now I am 30 can I still wear embroided flower jeans??? LOL Who cares!!! My husband said "look at the legs they are even loose on you" lol This was quite encouraging to me!

My DARLING son has misplaced my tape measure.. so until I find it I cannot update my measurements this week!!! I am 6 lbs away from my 2nd goal which would make 40 lbs!!! Can't wait!

Until next week.. (please be more than a pound lol)

Oh and don't forget tomorrow is Soap Box Thursday lol If you have something to say about anything positive or negative (in good taste of course please lol) and you would like to a place to "vent" lol Link up here tomorrow!

Feel free to link up to my blog or comment with your weight loss progress.

This week was NOT good!! We had company last week...which did not cause me to cheat with food..but I did cheat a little with not exercising enough!!! Any my second excuse (lol), is my baby girl is waking up several times a night again ...and I have been a walking zombie.. to tired to exercise. So I have to change some things around here!! I am disappointed.. but.. I guess the bright side of my dark week is that I didn't gain..and I lost 1.5 inches! Please feel free to weigh in by a comment or link your blog below with Mr. Linky! I know my weigh ins haven't been terribly encouraging lately.. so I am sorry... lol but as I have said many a time "I am not, and will not quit"! :)

Design from a Trunk!

This is what happens when you put off projects and you have company coming. lol I have been meaning for a year now to put up curtains in our media room and babies room (among others lol). So last night I nearly entered panic stage when I realized we have family coming Thursday and all these projects were not complete and to make matters worse I hadn't purchased curtain rods yet!! So these are the results of digging out curtains and using thumb tacks LOL

The next set of pictures here are my versions of 'wall art'. I have so much blank wall in this house... I found my husbands old and I mean OLD (lol) little league jersey and thought it would be cute to hang in the media room. In my daughters room, I hung some handmade blankets that were handed down from my husband's family.

In the hallway, the little asian outfit was a gift to us from some friends. All these things, have meaning to us.. and I thought that perhaps they hold more "value" hanging where we can see them, then carefully folded in a dark trunk!

This "has" to work for me I have company coming lol

How did everyone do this week???

Cruise in the Sun!

About 5 years ago, before my husband and I were married, we took a trip to Wyoming to visit my family. This was the first initial "boyfriend meeting the family" situation. We decided to rent a car, since it was summer we rented an awesome convertible. We drove all the way from California to Wyoming most of the way with the convertible top down soaking in the sun! What a memory that was!!! That is why I am so excited that Advantage Rent a Car is offering 50% off of their convertibles and luxury car rental!!! Nothing more fun than to take a little trip in luxury!

Luxury and convertible cars are starting at $20.99 a day. Now that is pretty amazing considering that just last week I was pricing car rentals for my brother with an different company and the compact cars were starting at $40/day!

If I were you, I would visit Advantage car rental site and grab one of these deals for your next outing!

Why I love my husband..

First reason I love my husband even more today lol is... We were driving to church this morning... in our mini van lol It is about a 30 minute drive, so there is always opportunity for my husband and I to talk, well, that is in between the 3 thousand questions from my 3 1/2 year old son, and the squawks from my 7 month old daughter. Today, we were talking about getting the house cleaned up for company this week.. well, I was talking lol I asked my husband a question, there was a slight pause, then he says "Man, I wonder how they get those windows up there" I look in the direction he was..and I realize he was referring to a tall hotel being built... I starred at him.. and realized he hadn't heard one bit of what I was saying lol...

Then Second reason I love my husband is during church the Pastor was giving the last bit of announcements before the service was over.. talking about how we need to be faithful to church ect.. and that church tonight started at 6 and that we were having the Lord's Supper. Well, in that same moment my husband leans over and says "Do you want to grill Steak for dinner?" LOL I just starred at him.. looked back up at the pastor, then back at my husband.. I whispered back, "what in the world..does that have to do with anything?" and he says with an embarrassed smile "Oh, sorry, Pastor mentioned Lord's Supper and I thought about the Steaks in the refrigerator, and I thought we could fix them like they did on the food channel yesterday" LOL

So lesson one is... I realize that half the things I say never make it to his brain lol I think I probably sound like Charlie Brown's teacher, to him. "Wwwah Wwwah Wwwah"

Second Lesson is... When I think we are on the same page.. we are usually in two totally different books!!! lol

Third Lesson is... I think I'll start using my words more wisely, and not waste my breath lol (RIGHT)

Reasons to love my husband even more.. for the randomness (is that a word?) of life lol He definitely makes me laugh!

Kelly Blue Book Stinks!!!! Soap Box Thursday!

This is my first soap box post! I was thinking.. about all the things that we don't find out until "after the fact"... some things I believe would be worth knowing before hand! So I decided to host Soap Box Thursday lol. Let me give you my soap box story, which has sparked this idea. lol Last Friday, On July 4th, my husband and kids decided it was time to buy a car. We love the car we had, which was a PT GT Cruiser, but after just having our second child we have quickly outgrown our little car. Since the day we purchased our PT we determined to take excellent care of our "baby". And I will add for sentimental reasons, this was our first real purchase as a married couple, kind of special to us.

After about three hours into choosing the new car of our choice and negotiating(at the dealership), the salesman proceeded to ask us what our downpayment would be. We explained to him that our PT would be our trade in as well as the equity we had in the car would act as our down. We had put a lot of thought into this car as far as purchasing a car that we thought would hold its value. For example, we bought the GT model, all leather seats, sun roof, basically loaded.
Kelly's Blue Book had provided us the numbers and values for our car and that for the last few years we had been basing the sell of our PT on Kelly Blue Book Values. He (salesman)shook his head, then launched into a 15 minute (it seemed) explanation on why Kelly Blue Book is no good and values are not accurate. In fact they are so Inaccurate that we only received 45% of what we thought we would for our car. Talk about feeling sick!!!! The salesman explained that hardly any dealerships, as well as the STATES do not recognize Kelly Blue Book as a reliable source... and not only is Kelly Blue Book questionable but there is fine print at the bottom of each 'quote' that reads only 5% of vehicles will meet this criteria. (GRRRR)

So it would of been better for us to sell our PT ourselves, come back and buy a car with the money we made from our own sale... Instead the dealership paid off the rest of our PT loan which was hardly anything, and gave us 250 dollars. Which basically we made pennies on the dollar for our investment.
I only share this because if we would of known this.. we would of done things completely different with a much better plan. Yes, we walked away with a nice mini van with all the perks and room we had hoped for, but we left behind an investment that we feel was basically taken for free.

Don't let this happen to you!!!!
What I recommend is to call the dealership a head of time that you plan on visiting and if you have a trade in ask them what method they use to gage the value on a car.

So basically, in my opinion,
Kelly Blue Book Stinks!!! lol This is my Thursday Soap Box Story!!! Feel free to link up and share your story. Perhaps your experience will spare someone else!

Cute Flip Book keeps my son entertained lol

I thought this was so cute. It is a flip book that you can print out and put together from the Stuart Little Website. So simple to assemble. I just taped the top where the numbers are. There are 45 squares which takes up 3 printed pages. My almost 4 years old has been carrying this little book around all morning and keeps showing me how it works lol

Just thought this was so cute.. Simple, free, and keeps my son happy for a bit anyway lol

Home Fragrance

I have a sensitive nose...and when there is an odor of any kind in our home it drives me crazy lol A couple of months ago my husband and I purchased the Homedics Brethe™ Air Revitalizer (I am not getting paid to endorse!! I just love it!!!). It works as an air purifier as well as a wonderful air freshner!!! We normally use the homedics freshning oils like Orange, Vanilla, Lime. But recently I have found that Fragrance oils from any store work just as well. I tried out my new Bath and Body Works Home Fragrance oil a couple of days ago..and I cannot tell absolutely wonderful our house smelled... The fragrance was Wild Honeysuckle.. I only added about 5 drops to the Revitalizer..and for 24 hours or so it put out a soft smell of Honeysuckles... Talk about calm and inviting lol.

We have decided that we are going to get a couple more for the rest of our home.. This is definitely worth the money... and it works for me! :)

Sour Cream Coffee Cake

**OK I am an idiot.. I just now realized I was suppose to post only 5 ingredients or less.. SORRY lol... Ill look for a different recipe.. after my headache leaves me lol :) ***

Oh goodness, I just finished writing an entire post for Works for me Wednesday then I find out the subject is RECIPES!!! lol grrrr...

Well, I have sooo many favorite recipes, here is just one.. I love!

Sour Cream Coffee Cake III

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup butter and white sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the sour cream and vanilla. Mix in 2 cups flour, baking powder, and salt. Spread 1/2 of batter in the prepared pan.
  3. Prepare the filling: In a medium bowl mix 1/3 cup flour, brown sugar, 2 tablespoons melted butter, and cinnamon. Sprinkle cake batter with 1/2 the filling. Spread second half of batter over the filling, and top with remaining filling.
  4. Bake 35 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
I have to admit, that I usually triple the Filling part haha. What good is coffee cake without lots of gooey filling!!

You can find this recipe here.

A little about me...

It is that time again!!!! I am thinking of attempting to lose weight for the 100 millionth time. haha. This time I know it will work :)

In November of 2007, I gave birth to my second child, a C-Section. Not only did that put me back physically, but I also developed high blood pressure. I am only 29. Talk about discouraging.

I started gaining weight in highschool. Seems to have followed me everywhere. My ultimate goal is to lose 120 lbs but I'll settle for 10 right now. haha.

There is absolutely no reason why I cannot succeed in this weight loss endeavor. I have exercise equipment. I guess that means I have to use it. Also, I am going to attempt the Carbohydrates Addict Diet. I have had some success with this in the past.

So I am thinking, with putting my progress out for the world to see.. it will force me to make the right choices. Let's hope!! Feel free to comment on anything or tell your story. It's always encouraging to hear about others successes. Join me on this weight loss journey...
