MY QUESTION:
Have you or Do you use a food journal? If so do you think it made a difference in how you ate?

Webfetti.com
My Answer:
I just actually won a food journal recently..and have found that keeping track of every thing is really helping me a great deal. Nothing is more embarrassing then when you have to write in your food journal "Ate 12 cookies and 5 scoops of ice cream" lol No I didn't do that lol (just an example lol)

I use to keep one and it made a HUGE difference in how I ate! Seeing it written down and having to write it down before you eat it really holds you accountable and makes you think twice before shoving something into your mouth!

I have tried to keep one before by my lack of self discipline always creeps in and makes me stop because seriously do I really want to write down that I just ate a WHOLE sleeve of Ritz?! :-P I guess I defeat the purpose of the whole food journal thing.

i have never used one but I bet it would help if I did. Probably worth giving a try.

I do not use a food journal. I honestly think having to write down EVERYTHING I ate would drive me crazy.

I don't keep one and never had. I am lucky that I can eat an extra 300-500 calories while breastfeeding. Plus I'd much rather exercise than restrict what I eat.

But good for you and good luck on your weight loss journey. My cousin and her husband both lost over 100lbs each on the Dr. Bernstein diet.

Have done that in the past. It did help. been thinking of starting one now. I want to find a program that will add up all the cal and stats for me. One problem with only a hand food journal,is it is time consuming(looking up everything). But I think is is good to log your daily intake.

I have never kept a food journal, but my girlfriend has and she found it helpful. I did the South Beach diet back in January and lost the 6 lbs I need to by cutting back on my sugar & carbs. But I do like the idea of a food journal - it's a great way to keep track of what & how much you are eating :-)

In the past I have kept food journals and they have made a huge difference. When we get back from vacation I will be back to doing this and also journaling my steps and exercise each day.

Yes and Yes! I think it helps you understand what you are doing with your food habits. Once you change them then maybe you could put it down but if you being gaining again then you can do it again and take a look at what's going on.

I too have been on countless diets. The one that worked best for me was Adkins. I lost 40 lbs like 6 years ago and managed to keep most of it off. I've gained back a few pounds (middle age stuff) so I just started back last week. Anyway, to answer your question, the problem with food journals is that you spend so much time dwelling on them that you start to get hungry. Plus, you are set up for failure if your are so focused on every little calorie etc. That's my opinion. Good luck.

The only time I used a food journal was when I was having stomach trouble and needed to find out what was causing my stomach to hurt.

I am currently using one but just kind of becoming aware of how I eat. I haven't made extreme changes yet.

no, i have never used one but i can see how it would help in the process of losing weight. it's part of the accountability piece.

I always try but I just don't have the time to do it - I rarely can sit and eat so I am always literally eating on the run.

I've never stuck to it, but I have tried. I'm envious of those who are disciplined enough to do it. I do think it helps.

A little about me...

It is that time again!!!! I am thinking of attempting to lose weight for the 100 millionth time. haha. This time I know it will work :)

In November of 2007, I gave birth to my second child, a C-Section. Not only did that put me back physically, but I also developed high blood pressure. I am only 29. Talk about discouraging.

I started gaining weight in highschool. Seems to have followed me everywhere. My ultimate goal is to lose 120 lbs but I'll settle for 10 right now. haha.

There is absolutely no reason why I cannot succeed in this weight loss endeavor. I have exercise equipment. I guess that means I have to use it. Also, I am going to attempt the Carbohydrates Addict Diet. I have had some success with this in the past.

So I am thinking, with putting my progress out for the world to see.. it will force me to make the right choices. Let's hope!! Feel free to comment on anything or tell your story. It's always encouraging to hear about others successes. Join me on this weight loss journey...
