Saving Money With Homemade Laundry Detergent

I can't tell you how much money we have saved making our own detergent. At first, I thought making detergent was so dumb lol But then I decided to give it a chance.. and have not gone back. I think I spent maybe 10 dollars for the soap materials for an entire year.. It actually works too lol :) Next time I make a batch I will post pictures of the step process.

It's been a while since I posted the recipe for Homemade Laundry Detergent.. So Here goes! :)

Homemade Laundry Detergent Recipe:

1/3 bar Fels Naptha or other type of soap, as listed above
(I use the PINK soap buy it at Walmart for .99)

½ cup washing soda
(I could only find this at our grocery store)

½ cup borax powder
(Found this at Walmart)

~You will also need a small bucket, about 2 gallon size~
(I use a 5 gallon Paint Bucket from Walmart)

Grate the soap and put it in a sauce pan. Add 6 cups water and heat it until the soap melts. Add the washing soda and the borax and stir until it is dissolved. Remove from heat. Pour 4 cups hot water into the bucket. Now add your soap mixture and stir. Now add 1 gallon plus 6 cups of water and stir. Let the soap sit for about 24 hours and it will gel. You use ½ cup per load.

*** Sometimes it doesn't quite GEL up grrr.. but you can still use it! My disclaimer here.. I am not claiming that this will be a magic soap and solve all your laundry problems. Nor am I claiming that it will only cost you 10 dollars for a year..or save you millions. This is just something that works for me and my family and if you want to try it GREAT but don't hold me responsible lol (Thanks to FTC for this disclaimers lol)

Ha! I make my own too--only I do the powder. I love it!!

A little about me...

It is that time again!!!! I am thinking of attempting to lose weight for the 100 millionth time. haha. This time I know it will work :)

In November of 2007, I gave birth to my second child, a C-Section. Not only did that put me back physically, but I also developed high blood pressure. I am only 29. Talk about discouraging.

I started gaining weight in highschool. Seems to have followed me everywhere. My ultimate goal is to lose 120 lbs but I'll settle for 10 right now. haha.

There is absolutely no reason why I cannot succeed in this weight loss endeavor. I have exercise equipment. I guess that means I have to use it. Also, I am going to attempt the Carbohydrates Addict Diet. I have had some success with this in the past.

So I am thinking, with putting my progress out for the world to see.. it will force me to make the right choices. Let's hope!! Feel free to comment on anything or tell your story. It's always encouraging to hear about others successes. Join me on this weight loss journey...
